Respected author Peter Guralnick has spent the past few years delving into the relationship between Elvis Presley and Colonel Parker. He had access to thousands of documents in the Graceland archives. He has written a controversial book about the relationship between the two, which will be released later this month.

In the book, Guralnick offers a nuanced perspective on the complex relationship between Elvis Presley and his controversial manager, Dries van Kuijk—better known as Colonel Tom Parker. While Parker was portrayed as a villain in the recent Elvis film, Guralnick offers a broader context. He describes Parker as someone with a sharp business sense, who, as an immigrant from Breda, ultimately became responsible for one of the world's biggest stars.

Van Kuijk, who, as is well known, left for America in 1929 without legal papers and assumed the identity of "Tom Parker." The publication of Guralnick's book also sheds new light on that period, his interactions with artists like Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow, and, of course, his crucial role in launching Elvis Presley's career.

The interviews with Guralnick reveal, among other things, how the biographer spent years researching, including reviewing hundreds of letters to and from Parker. His conclusion: Parker was not only a brilliant strategist but also a genuine believer in Elvis's exceptional talent. "Colonel immediately saw that Elvis had a bright future ahead of him," Guralnick told the newspaper.
